A Cape Coral woman died after crashing her motor scooter along San Carlos Boulevard on Fort Myers Beach on Saturday evening. Her passenger was sent to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition, officials said.

Debby Lynn Kuykendal, 39, was pronounced dead on scene after highway troopers said she struck a curb on the east side of San Carlos Boulevard twice before the vehicle overturned and ejected both occupants.

Laura Ingle, 37, Kuykendal’s passenger, remained in critical condition Monday morning, according to hospital spokesperson Karen Krieger.

Troopers said Kuykendal drove northbound in the outside lane when for unknown reasons she struck the eastern curb, corrected and struck the curb again, ejecting Kuykendal and Ingle from the vehicle to slide northbound along the east sidewalk. The accident happened at about 5:15 p.m., reports indicate.

The vehicle continued to travel northbound and struck a fence post, causing it to stop. Kuykendal and Ingle had stopped just north of the vehicle, troopers said.
