Police search for driver in I-75 hit-and-run
Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck a pedestrian Monday morning on Interstate 75.
A dark-colored Chevrolet truck struck James Perrine, 24, of North Port, at about 12:28 a.m., according to Florida Highway Patrol troopers.
Perrine was one of several bystanders attempting to assist Cape Coral man Gerald E. Gaudlap Jr., 34, who had crashed his 2006 Mitsubishi into a barrier wall on the Peace River Bridge and was disabled in the inside northbound lane.
The hit-and-run driver struck the back of Guadlap’s vehicle and hit Perrine on his left side as he attempted to run away, according to FHP. The driver fled the scene.
Perrine was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital and was listed in serious condition Monday. Gaudlap was taken to the Charlotte Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
FHP reported the truck may have damage consistent with striking a pedestrian.
