Gulf Middle School

Gulf Middle School will honor veterans past and present on Friday, Nov. 7. GMS will hold its 14th Annual Veterans’ Day Observance. The observance will begin at 10:15 a.m. in front of the school. The theme of the observance this year is “Remembered & Thank You”. The public is invited to attend.

Gulf Elementary

The third, fourth and fifth grade gifted students at Gulf Elementary on will be hosting a “Potlatch” celebration on Friday, Nov. 14. This event will take place from 9:30 a.m.-2:45 p.m. Sitting around the camp fire, Native American tales will be told by special guest, author Gerald Hausman.

The Native American Village will come alive as the young historians will visit, Make and Take Booths, for all to enjoy Native American crafts such as pottery, bead work. leather bracelets, and more followed by a “Potlach” luncheon..

A Potlach was a celebration held by the Native Americans of the Northwest in honor of many things.

A special Potlatch building was erected within the village for these special occasions.

Silver Magic Band

The Silver Magic Marching Band announce they will be hosting the annual “Preview of Champions: Magic Marching Band on Nov. 8 at Tony McKenna Stadium. The competition will begin at 3:45 p.m.

There are 15 bands committed to performing at this vent. The same night all West Zone 8th grade band students are invited to join us for a performance of The National Anthem. Their performance at 3:30 p.m. will kick off the competition.

The cost of admission is $8, with children 10 and under half price.

Art League classes

The Cape Coral Art League, located at 516 Cultural Park Blvd. announces the new fall schedule of classes: Painting in Pastels, Jewelry Design, Acrylic Painting, Drawing, and Painting on Location.

Watercolor classes will begin in November.

We also have classes for homeschoolers as well as an after school children’s program. Call Lois Johnston at 210-1318 for more information about the children’s program.

Edison & Ford Estates Programs

The Edison & Ford Winter Estates will offer a variety of children and adult programs and events throughout the month of November.

Free admission to United States veterans and their families on Nov. 11. Free admission includes a tour of the historic homes, botanical gardens, the Estates Museum and the Edison Research Lab. Veterans must present a VA identification card or their DD214 papers to receive free admission.

On Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. Bring a small vase and have a hands-on experience cutting Estates foliage. Registration is required and space is limited. Cost for Estates members $20 and $25 for non members.

“Invent It” on Nov. 16, 2 p.m. The event is for all ages. Admission for Estates members is free cost for non members is $10 adults for adults and $5 for children.

New Volunteer Orientation is Nov. 19 at 10 a.m.

Estates Docent Training is on Nov. 20 at 9 a.m.

Home Schoolers: “Invent It” is on Nov. 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. Registration is required. Estates members pay $5 for admission Cost for non members is $15 for one adult and one child. Each additional child cost $5.

Painting in the Moonlight Garden with Artist Leona Lovegrove is on Nov. 22 from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. Cost for Estates member is , $135 and non members pay $150. Registration is required. Supply list will be provided upon registration.

The Estates will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, but will reopen on Friday, Nov. 28.

Florida Inspired, What’s Old is New, Edison Caretaker’s House Showcase is opening Nov. 28 and continuing through mid January.

Edison Garden Market, will be open on Nov .29 from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. and Nov. 30 from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. The event is free to the public.

Renaissance School auction

Renaissance School‚s second annual online auction kicks off on Nov. 5. This school‚s parent-led auction hopes to raise $10,000 toward education at Renaissance School. Bidding is open to everyone. Bishop Verot

For the first time in its history, the Bishop Verot Players present a play by William Shakespeare.

On Nov. 21 through 23, Shakespeare’s most original comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be performed by a cast of more than 30 students.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m.. Friday and Saturday with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.. Tickets are $5, and are available at the door one hour before performance. Doors open 30 minutes before curtain. Patrons arriving late will not be seated until the first scene change.

All box office proceeds will be donated to Hands Together, a mission in Haiti operated by For. Tom Hagen, an Oblate of St. Francis de Sales.

Program sponsorship to offset production costs is available for a minimum $25 donation. Your business card or short message will be featured in the playbill distributed to theatergoers. ‘Kids Can Cook’

The “Kids Can Cook” television show was recently on location at the Brightest Horizons Development Center in Fort Myers. The show is a vehicle to proper nutrition, building a social exchange and creating a learning experience in an entertaining format, according to officials. The center used the visit to celebrate children and food from around the world.

Brightest Horizons Development Center, which has been in existence for over 30 years, is a state-licensed facility which provides an educational program for 163 children from four weeks of age to 12 years old. The center’s mission is to provide educational and developmental day care for children of low income working families.

New after-school arts

The Alliance for the Arts is excited to announce the new “After School Arts Program” for elementary and middle school students.

Tuition includes a daily snack, homework help, and most supplies (excluding musical instruments). Students have the choice to choose from a variety of small group lessons from highly qualified instructors in specialties such as art, dance, voice, theatre, and instrumental music.

Prices vary depending on grade. Cost for elementary school students is $70 per week or $15 per day. Cost for middle school students is $45 per week or $10 per day. there is $5 discount for siblings.
