Weather permitting, the local DOF Forestry Center scheduled a prescribed burn today in Lee County on Burnt Store Road near the Charlotte County line. The burn is a part of our on-going fuel reduction program.

The bur was scheduled to begin at approximately 10 a.m. Preparation work and test burns will be done earlier in the day.

The DOF Forestry Center also planned a prescribed burn today in Hendry County off Keri Tower Road. The burn was also scheduled to begin at approximately 10 a.m.

Residents in those immediate area have been notified. Although a smoke management plan has been done, unpredicted wind shifts may cause smoky conditions to occur in the area. Those who are smoke sensitive due to medical or other conditions should take appropriate precautions.

Anyone entering the area should use caution, drive with lights on in smoky area and be alert for the heavy equipment.
