Cape teen charged in robbery of local gas station

By Staff | Jan 3, 2009

A Cape teen was arrested and charged in the robbery of a gas station Friday, while police continue to investigate several other gas station robberies that occurred Friday morning.
Brian Robert Covello, 17, of 1224 S.W. 38th Terrace, was charged with robbery and loitering and prowling.
He was released to the Department of Juvenile Justice Friday, according to jail records.
According to city spokesperson Connie Barron, police believe Covello robbed a Circle K store located at 1523 N.E. Pine Island Road at about 12:36 a.m.
Police said Covello demanded cash. He made off with $60, according to reports.
Police later found Covello behind a Circle K at 2808 Del Prado Boulevard, Barron said. That store had not reported a robbery Friday.
The Cape Coral Police Department continues to investigate three additional robberies that occurred Friday morning, Barron said. Stores that were reported robbed include a Circle K at 533 Cape Coral Parkway; a Circle K at 2505 Santa Barbara Boulevard; and a BP store at 2231 Del Prado Boulevard.
It is unclear if the robberies are linked in any way.
Police will release information on the robberies when it becomes available, Barron said Friday.
