Former congressional, sheriff’s candidate charged with DUI

NAPLES — A man who has run for Congress in Southwest Florida several times was arrested Saturday by Cape Coral police.
Robert Neeld was charged with DUI and resisting an officer without violence.
Neeld was booked into the Lee County Jail at 1:56 a.m. Saturday and released from jail at 1:07 p.m. Saturday, according to officials at the Lee County jail.
A Democrat, Neeld ran unsuccessfully against Connie Mack in 2004, 2006 and 2008. Mack, R-Fort Myers, represents a Congressional district serving Lee and Collier counties.
Neeld also ran unsuccessfully for Lee County sheriff in 1996 and 2000.
