Honorary mayor race under way in North Ft. Myers
The race is on for the third annual North Fort Myers Honorary Mayor contest, sponsored by the North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce.
“This is the fund-raiser that allows us to give North Fort Myers High School students scholarships,” said North Fort Myers Chamber Executive Director Dina Porter. “To vote for your favorite mayor candidate go to: www.nfmchamber.org.”
Individuals are asked to vote now for their favorite mayor candidate. Each vote is $1 on PayPal through the chamber Web site, or you can print out the 2009 Honorary Mayor Candidate form and send it back with a check by mail to the North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce office.

n Jarrod Cantrell, Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy
n Richard Dunmire, celebrating his 50th year as a teacher
n Ronnie Morgan, band master
n Cindy Newmaster, general manager for BJ’s Wholesale Club
n Jim Wells, owner – Vertical Point Technologies
The Honorary Mayor Caribbean Gala will be held at the Dolphin Room at the Shell Factory on Friday, Feb. 6, at 6:30 p.m., where the winner will be announced.

Tracey Edwards, Host of Fox 4 Morning Blend will be the emcee, and current Honorary Mayor Tom Cronin Sr. will preside over this year’s event and certify the contestant’s vote results.
“Also, Fort Myers Mayor Jim Humphrey will award our honorary mayor with the key to the city and Sheriff Mike Scott will present the winner with his or her office proclamation and mayoral guidebook,” said Porter.
The chamber will also hold a Grand Opening Ceremony on Thursday, Jan. 29, at 5:30 p.m.
The event will take place at the Shell Factory Dolphin Room.
The North Fort Myers Neighbor will profile each candidate over the next two weeks, beginning with Cantrell, Dunmire and Wells.
