Two charged in theft of vehicle, gun from Cape home
Two men face a combined total of 36 felony counts after they were arrested in connection with a home burglary that happened Tuesday.
Wayne Blanks, 19, of Fort Myers, and Jarvis B. Bowens, 21, of Cape Coral, were charged Friday with armed burglary, motor vehicle theft, criminal mischief and 15 counts of grand theft of a firearm.
Blanks and Bowens are suspects an a home burglary reported in the 2800 block of Northwest 26th Terrace. They are accused of making off with a gun safe full of firearms, a dirt bike, a flat screen television, a laptop and a 2005 Ford SUV, possibly among other items, according to city spokesperson Connie Barron.
Police recovered the SUV in a wooded area on Northwest 28th Avenue, and found scrape marks from the gun safe being dragged from the burglarized home to Bowens’ nearby home at 2921 N.W. 27th Street, Barron said.
Officers made contact with Bowens and discovered several of the items reported stolen from the burglarized Cape home, Barron said.
Bowens reportedly admitted to acting as a lookout during the burglary, and said a third party was involved in the crime.
Police continue to investigate to determine if another person was involved in the burglary, Barron said.
