Cape yacht club boat ramp closed for week
The Cape Coral Yacht Club boat ramp will be closed, starting today, to allow city work crews to remove sand from the area.
The sand is preventing easy access for boats to the Caloosahatchee River.
“When the sand starts piling up around the ramp, it gets harder to move boats in and out,” city spokesperson Connie Barron said.
Last year, the first year such work was conducted, crews took three days to dredge sand from the yacht club boat ramp area. About 24 dump trucks were needed to transport the sand last year, although that amount is not anticipated this time.
The sand will be stored on the western side of the beach to dry before being hauled away to an undeveloped park in the city.
The boat ramp is expected to be reopened by Saturday, but could be open as early as Friday, Barron said.
