Local veterans and their relatives have a chance Wednesday, July 1, to understand how benefits from the government can be used for home care, assisted living or nursing home care.
The Windsor Assisted Living and Memory Care Community in Cape Coral is partnering with the Lee Memorial Health System’s Share Club and Veteran’s Support Center to host a meeting to discuss the benefits.
The informative meeting will be held from 6-7 p.m. inside the Cape Coral Hospital Auxiliary Room.
Dawn Platt, spokesperson for The Windsor, said Veteran’s Support Center presenter David Casterioto will discuss benefits and options for aging veterans.
Local veterans are eligible for up to $22,116 per year toward long-term care.
“There is different eligibility for each veteran,” said Platt. “There is a specific amount that a veteran or spouse is eligible for in assisted living.”
Casterioto will also discuss what a spouse or relative may receive from a veteran’s benefits.
“It really is a wonderful benefit. A lot of people don’t know about it. It provides a widow of a veteran to get assistance,” she said. “Once in assisted living, they can get support to pay for their care.”
According to Platt, The Windsor has teamed up with The Share Club before. Earlier this year they had a number of meetings about healthy brain initiatives.
The Windsor is a state-of-the-art assisted living community that is under construction on Santa Barbara Boulevard. It is accepting reservations and should be open by late September or early October, said Platt.
