By Staff | Jun 30, 2009

The driver of a garbage truck that rolled onto an SUV Monday, fatally injuring the driver, has been cited with driving too fast for the conditions
Connie Pierce, 56, of Cape Coral, died after a truck driven by Jesus Brogan Avilez, 29, of Lehigh Acres, sideswipped two vehicles, then flipped on its side, landing on her SUV, according to Fort Myers police.
Investigators believe wet roads may have been a factor in the crash.
The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Colonial Boulevard and Summerlin Road at 3:17 p.m.
Athorities said a preliminary investigation has revealed the following: The Waste Management garbage truck was traveling east on Colonial Boulevard. The driver of the truck sideswiped two cars waiting in the left turn lane. The garbage truck driver lost control, the truck flipped sideways, and landed on top of Pierce’s SUV, also waiting at the intersection.
The driver of the SUV was killed in the crash. No one else was hurt.
