Public information meetings

By Staff | Jul 13, 2009

The Lee County Department of Transportation will hold two public information

meetings to present proposed changes to restructure the LeeWay Toll Program for the Sanibel, Cape Coral and Midpoint bridges. The first meeting will be held from 4 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Sanibel Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. A second meeting will be from 6 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at La Venezia, 4646 SE 10th Place, Cape Coral. A presentation will be given at the beginning of the meeting, followed by a question and answer session.

The County’s current system consists of 48 different toll program options

and is very confusing and complex. The proposed restructuring provides

clarity, simplicity and equity for all bridge users. The County is

proposing to eliminate all pre-paid programs purchased on an annual or

semi-annual basis. The County is proposing a toll structure where each trip

will cost the same, one price for cash and one price for ETC (electronic

toll collection). For the Cape Coral and Midpoint bridges, the cash toll

will remain the same as it is currently at $2 and the ETC toll will be

$1.32. For the Sanibel bridge, the cash toll will remain the same as it is

currently at $6 and the ETC toll will be $3.
