Labor Day weekend sobriety enforcment kicks off with 6 DUI arrests

A holiday sobriety effort kicked off with six DUI arrests made Friday night and Saturday morning in the area of Ben Hill Griffin Parkway, Alico Road, Corkscrew Road and Three Oaks Parkway.
The following are the results of the activity that began at 9 p.m. and ended at 3 a.m. this morning:
DUI Arrests: 6
Driving While License Suspended: 1
No Valid Driver’s License: 1
Possession of a controlled substance: 5
Misdemeanor Warrant: 1
Traffic citations issued: 61
Traffic Warning issued: 38
The primary emphasis for DUI enforcement efforts are to temove impaired drivers from the roadway; teduce the likelihood impaired drivers will operate their vehicles on our roadways; heighten public awareness and educate the public on the dangers of drunk driving, officials said.
This weekend’s saturation patrol involved members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Gulf Coast University Police Department.
