Food drive announced for local Publix

By Staff | Sep 14, 2009

Everyone can participate in Lee County Transit’s (LeeTran) food drive this Sunday, Sep. 20. A fleet of 32 buses will be deployed to Publix locations throughout Lee County between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to collect nonperishable food to benefit the Harry Chapin Food Bank.

The Publix locations participating range from Del Tura in North Fort Myers down to Bonita Beach Road, and Camelot Isles in Cape Coral to Homestead Plaza in Lehigh Acres. At 4:00 p.m., the buses will caravan to the Harry Chapin Food Bank’s Fowler Street warehouse, where volunteers will unload the donations.

The Harry Chapin Food Bank solicits, collects and stores quality food for distribution to needy people through a network of more than 160 local nonprofit agencies, who provide food to more than 20,000 people monthly, with 500,000 pounds of food being distributed monthly. In the past fiscal year, The Harry Chapin Food Bank distributed more than six million pounds of food and other grocery products.
