Donations, volunteers needed for Thanksgiving Day meal for less fortunate
Christ Community Church and local ministries host free event
Christ Community Church is hosting a free Thanksgiving Day meal for the less fortunate on Thursday, Nov. 26 from Noon-3 p.m. at Christ Community Church, 4801 Orange Grove Blvd. in North Fort Myers. Organizers are requesting donations and volunteer support to feed about 250 people on Thanksgiving Day.
"This year has been especially difficult for people and families who have lost their jobs, their homes or have been struggling to feed their families," says Kim Barrera, a member of Christ Community Church and one of the event organizers. "Guests will be seated, their orders will be taken and they will be served a home-cooked, traditional Thanksgiving Day meal. Most importantly, we will offer our support and lift them up in prayer."
In addition to Christ Community Church, a number of local ministries are participating including New Mission Systems International and the Bootstrap Homeless Ministries. These organizations serve the less fortunate throughout the year providing food, clothing, spiritual guidance and other support and benevolent services.
In addition to seeking volunteers to cook or serve, the church is in need of the following food or food service items: turkeys, potatoes, stuffing, green beans, mushroom soup cans, bacon, gravy, pumpkin or apple pies, whipped topping, ice cream, beverages, cups, plates, napkins and serving utensils.
If you are interested in participating, please call Kim Barrera at 239-656-1740 or email email@example.com.
