There is a lot of excitement around North Fort Myers about the proposed Town Center Concept, with information presented at a recent community meeting.

"The Town Center Concept is the anchor to future development in the area around Rt. 41., Hancock Bridge Parkway and Pondella Road," said Mike Land, chairman of the North Fort Myers Community Planning Panel.

The meeting was jointly hosted by the North Fort Myers Community Planning Panel and the North Fort Myers Design Review Panel..

"We had a nice turnout of non members," he said. "I didn't here one negative comment about it and hope the Town Center Concept will be the lynchpin or fulcrum around which the redevelopment of North Fort Myers will evolve."

James Leese and Bill Brissom from LaRue Planning made the Town Center presentation. A number of graphic illustrations and charts were presented, also questions from community members were addressed.

"This was a six-year process," Land said. "From here the concept gets reviewed by three different review organizations, and then will go to the County Commissioners by the end of the year and, hopefully, it will become part of the Lee Plan Development Code by end of year.

"Lee County Code Enforcement heads were also there, to update us on the new rules and policies."

That included the county's Rick Roberts as head speaker. With the 4th of July holiday, the next meeting will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 7.

"We'll discuss Town Center more, and explore the possible of rail usage in the North Fort Myers area."

The meetings are held at Community of Christ Church, located at 368 Herron Road at 6 p.m. For more information, call Land at 823-3631.
