James F. "Pop Pop" Zellman, 85, of North Fort Myers, Fla. died the morning of June 13, 2012.
He was born and raised in Minnesota and enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific as a Corpsman on a mine sweeper. At the end of the war, he moved to New York City where he attended and graduated from Columbia University and he chose to become a teacher and college professor. He also met and married Barbara Lambert and they had four very lucky children. He retired from teaching and traveled the country enjoying all that life had to offer and made friends along the way.He then settled in Southwest Florida and pursued his hobbies of golf, tennis, grandchildren, and finally his great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by Barbara and he is survived by his children, Mark Zellman and wife, Deborah; John Zellman and wife, Mary; Robert duPlaine and Joanne Matthews and husband, Tim. He also is survived by his grandchildren, James, Danielle, Brittany, Troy and Meaghan and his great grandchildren, Zoee, Lexee and Anden.
Family message: He was a much loved father, grandfather, and great grandfather and he will be missed by all of us.
A Celebration of his Life was held Saturday, June 16, in the Chapel of Hope Hospice, 2430 Diplomat Pkwy., Cape Coral. Memorial may be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.
