Lee County Mini-Bus service now available in North Fort Myers

By Staff | Mar 5, 2014

Many elderly or disabled citizens in the North Fort Myers, Pine Island and Lehigh Acres communities have difficulty finding affordable transportation to doctors’ appointments and grocery shopping. Now, a new service, Lee County Mini-Bus, is available providing door-to-door pick up from your home to the doctors, shopping, food banks, financial institutions and more.

Kenyatta Watts, owner of Lee County Mini-Bus, found that there was a great need for this specialized service especially in areas where there is limited transportation resources. Most elderly or disabled citizens have financial difficulty getting to their appointments or getting to a store to buy groceries or clothes.

Sometimes, they have to walk blocks to a scheduled bus service, then walk blocks to their doctor’s office. When they are done at the doctor’s, they then have to wait for the next bus, if there is one and walk the distances again. This can be unhealthy and unsafe for this group of people.

“For instance, we have an elderly gentleman who pays $69 one way via taxi from North Fort Myers to his doctor’s office on Gladiolus Drive in Fort Myers,” Watts said. “Who can afford to see their doctor at that price? Now it only costs him $45 round trip.”

The drivers help the client into the car or minivan and into their doctor’s office if they need assistance. If the client is shopping, the driver will pick them up at a predetermined time and help carry their groceries.

Lee County Mini-Bus provides rides to doctors, banks, shopping and more from: North Fort Myers to Cape Coral and Fort Myers; Pine Island region to Cape Coral and Fort Myers; Lehigh Acres to Fort Myers; and Cape Coral to Fort Myers only. Costs vary by zone.
