Red White & Brew: Annual trolley event kicks off July 4 festivities

By Staff | Jun 24, 2016

Beer fanatics with a taste for domestics can sample over a dozen at Red, White & Brew.

Presented by the South Cape Hospitality and Entertainment Associations, the annual event will take place on July 2 from 7 to 11 p.m. in the South Cape. Thirteen participating venues will offer attendees a two-ounce sample of a homeland brew, which will be paired with an appetizer sample to also enjoy.

Last year, approximately 800 people turned out for the event.

“People can kick off their (holiday) weekend with this,” Pamela Hazelton, a spokeswoman for SCHEA said. “It’s a great event for people to mingle, meet new people, maybe go places they’ve never been.”

The featured domestics will range from regulars like Budweiser, Michelob Ultra, Yuengling and Miller Lite, to more atypical ones such as Shock Top, Dixie Beer, AmberBock and Yacht Club Cream Ale.

“They’re all American beers,” she said.

As for the food samples, attendees will see some typical American selections, like hot dogs, boiled peanuts and burger sliders, along with not-so-typical ones, like mango habanero chicken wings.

“Two Amigos tends to do something that has that Mexican flair to it,” Hazelton said of the mango habanero wings. “That’s going to be something unique that you probably haven’t tried before.”

Another location, Coconuts Neighborhood Bar & Eatery, will be serving up pot stickers.

“It’s not typically something you go into any restaurant and order,” she said.

Many of the venues feature live music, along with activities like karaoke, pool and darts.

“These locations have live entertainment,” Hazelton said.

A fleet of trolleys will shuffle attendees between the participating locations.

“When you’re on the trolleys, the trolleys are a lot of fun,” she said.

Each trolley has a host, who will award riders with trinkets and gift cards to local businesses for answering trivia questions correctly. The trolley hosts also offer information about the South Cape.

Tickets cost $15 in advance or $20 day of, if any are leftover.

There are only 1,000 tickets for sale. As of Thursday, about 400 were still available.

“If you want to make sure you get a ticket, you’re best chances are to purchase them four or five days before the event,” Hazelton said.

Advance tickets can be bought at any of the locations or online at: eventbrite.com.

Check-in will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Big John’s plaza and Club Square.

Any leftover tickets will be available day of at the check-in booths. After the booths close, any available tickets will be at the Dixie Roadhouse and Cruiser’s Lounge starting at 7:30 p.m.

Designated driver tickets are also available for $15 in advance.

“They have to sign a wavier stating that they are not going to consumer alcohol,” she said.

DD tickets get access to all of the food samples, as well as soda and water for $1.

Advance DD tickets are only available at BackStreets Sports Bar.

Hazelton encouraged people to pick up their tickets.

“It’s a great way to meet people and it’s way affordable,” she said. “People are going to be able to discover new places, and some of those locations become their regular spots.”

The event is only open to ages 21 years old and older.
