NFMAA to hold Arts Alive event this week

May 9, 2018

The North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts always celebrates the best the arts has to offer. This week the school continues that tradition during the Annual Arts Alive event that runs Thursday through Saturday.

Arts Alive will feature the best students in dance, drama and music, in a three-day event.

Unlike in previous years, where Arts Alive lasted all week and featured one or two events spread out over time, this year's showcase will mostly take place on Saturday.

Arts Alive kicks off on Thursday with the middle school band and continues Friday with Boy's Dance. Both shows start at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday is an all-day blast of talent throughout the school.

Drama 1, 2 and musical theater kicks things off at 9 a.m. While that is happening, robotics will take place in the gym and arts students in the elementary arts room will create and present their work throughout the day.

At 10:30 a.m., will be a Project Runway display in the media center. Dance 4 will present Environmental Choreography in the butterfly garden, fourth- and fifth-graders will present drama in the cafeteria and student art will be in the Dragon Gallery.

Choir will be in the theater at 11:15 a.m., digital design displays will be in the media center, additional student art will be in the cafeteria and food trucks will arrive.

At 12:15 p.m. Dance 2 and 3 will perform a choreographer's concert, while the Jazz Band performs in the cafeteria. Choir solos, bells and keyboards will start performing at 12:45 p.m.

Strings and middle school Orchestra 1,2 and 3 will perform in the theater at 1 p.m., steel drums will be at 2, while Dance 2,3 and 4 will climax the festivities a 3.

All during the event, there will be a silent auction in the media center, which has become a huge fund raiser for the school.

Tickets are on sale at SHOWTIX4U.com. They are $3 online and $5 at the door.

NFMAA will also accept applications for its popular summer performance arts camp. The deadline has been extended to May 18, with a $20 or $25 discount for each camp.

North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts is at 1856 Arts Way.
