Registration fair for CAMPtacular; Summer program runs June 9 through Aug. 15
The Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department has announced it will again offer an exciting summer program appropriately titled, CAMPtacular. An open registration fair will be held Saturday in the Oasis Charter School gymnasium from 8 a.m. until noon.
“We try to improve on the program every year,” said Tracy Smith, acting youth services director for the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. “We have really tried to step it up a notch and go above and beyond the things we normally do.”
CAMPtacular will be held at four locations around Cape Coral, which include Oasis Charter Elementary School, Christa McAuliffe Charter Elementary School, Four Freedoms Park and Caloosa Middle School.
“We want to provide an affordable and safe, fun place for people to bring their children while they are at work,” said Smith. “Let’s face it, there are a lot of families which are dual-income and need a place to bring their kids while they are at work.”
The program begins June 9 and will run until Aug. 15. Smith said from Aug. 11-15, the camp will be housed at the Wm. “Bill” Austen Youth Center as the schools will be preparing for the new school year.
“If parents want to sign their children up for that week of camp, I would advise they do it early because we have limited room for that week,” she said.
Smith said the department has a wide variety of activities planned for the summer months, including one aquatic trip per week to Sun Splash Family Waterpark or a community pool, and another field trip each week to such places as a local rollerskating rink, Mike Greenwell’s, a movie or bowling. It also plans to have guest speakers and pizza days on Fridays.
The cost for CAMPtacular is $98 per week, which includes lunch. Smith said the department is striving to offer the community a reasonably priced program filled with exciting things to do.
Parents can get a sneak peak into the summer activities by signing up their children for the upcoming spring break program, to be held April 14-18.
“We have mostly all the same things going on for the spring break program, but only one field trip,” said Smith.
The cost for the spring break camp is also $98, but it does not include lunch. However, on Friday of that week, campers will be treated to pizza.
