During the last two weeks of May, the Lee Memorial Health System will be hosting a series of education fairs inviting employees and members of the community to learn about careers that they would not ordinarily hear about.

The hospital system is hosting four education fairs at different locations between Monday and May 30 that will highlight all sorts of careers. And with the economy across the state floundering this season, the fair will offer additional opportunities for the unemployed.

“It’s not all health care related,” said Mike Polito of the Human Resources Strategic Business Partner-Workforce Planning and Development for LMHS. “This is geared for employees, employee families and anyone who wants to go.”

This year there will be tables for a number of state, local and online education institutions: The College Network, High Tech North, Central Walden University, Phoenix University, Barry University, Nova Southeastern University, Edison College, Southwest Florida College, Florida Gulf Coast University and Hodges University.

“Each college has a table to talk about anything from an associate’s (degree) to bachelor’s,” said Polito. “The people can go from table to table asking about programs they offer.”

Also in attendance will be Lee Memorial representatives from the human resources, clinical education and organizational effectiveness departments. They will inform the public on educational grants and scholarships they offer for people who plan on going to school, as well for employees of the Lee Memorial Health System who are interested in continuing education opportunities.

There will also be information about the system’s Career Assessment Program and School at Work Program.

This is the fourth year that the health system has hosted the fair and, according to Polito, it has had a positive turnout so far, even though the amount of attendees can vary.

“It’s sporadic because not everyone is interested in education, but they (vendors) are thrilled to get to talk to the people,” said Polito. “Sometimes we have 50 to 60 in a day, sometimes 100, and that is a success.”

Brad Pollins, system director for organizational effectiveness, said the fair is not only intended to educate the community on careers but also to inform employees of the health system on ways they can build on their careers.

The event is free and is not restricted to Lee Memorial employees. The following locations will hold an education fair:

— Lee Memorial Auditorium from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday

— Cape Coral Auxiliary Meeting Room from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday

— HealthPark Atrium from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday

— Southwest Regional Private Dining Room from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 30
