City manager’s one-man show to benefit Cape theater; Cultural Park Theater performance

By Staff | May 28, 2008

Cape Coral City Manager Terry Stewart will be singing at the Cultural Park Theater on Monday for one night only. Proceeds from the concert go to support children’s programming at the theater.

The one-man show will span a “couple of hours,” according to Stewart, and feature the music of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Johnny Mathis, among others.

“This will be the fourth show since I’ve been here in the Cape,” Stewart said. “Between songs I speak with the audience, I tell stories, give observations. But mostly its about the music.”

Though never formally trained, Stewart grew up singing in the church, and was the lead singer of a rock n’ roll band called The Noblemen in the late sixties. Music has been a part of Stewart’s life ever since.

“I’ve never had any training,” Stewart said. “I don’t read music. I learn strictly by ear.”

Cultural Park Theater’s Michael Moran said that Stewart has long been a friend of the theater, and helped to raise money in the past for the American Cancer Society, among other organizations.

“Terry has been a real good supporter of this theater for a long time,” Moran said.

The 7 p.m. performance also features a reception starting at 6 p.m., where concert attendees will have the chance to meet and talk with Stewart.

“He has a pretty verse repertoire. It’s always pleasing to the ear,” Moran said of Stewart. “He sings very well. He’s quite an accomplished singer.”

Moran added that Stewart always encourages other businesses in the community to sponsor the event. One of this year’s sponsors is the Haskell Company, a construction and development firm.

Stewart said the evening should be fun, but more importantly it is a chance to support the Cultural Park Theater.

“It’ll be an enjoyable evening. But the important thing here is to support the theater and its programs,” Stewart said. “From the response we’ve had in years past, I think people will have a great time and really enjoy themselves.”

Tickets are $15. For more information on Terry Stewart’s one-man concert, contact the Cultural Park Theater Box Office at 773-5862, or visit: culturalparktheater.com.
