US41 Self Storage Santa greets kids and pets at food drive

By Staff | Dec 24, 2008

Santa and Mrs. Claus delighted both children and pets when they stopped at US41 Self Storage to help with a food drive for the Harry Chapin Food Bank last week. They arrived in the “Santa Limo,” a special car.

The jolly couple posed with children, including a 3-month-old, and pets, including a North Fort Myers resident’s rescue dog, a min-pin named Pebbles.

“I love animals,” said Santa. “My own are going to be a bit jealous when they find out I was with these today.”

Manager Janie Boldt and her family stayed up late the night before to bake cookies and cupcakes for those who came to the drive.

“It was a family affair,” she said. “My son, Steven Land, and daughter-in-law, Nicole, decorated the cupcakes and Nicole did ornaments with the kids.”

The business has done other helping events this year, including a big blood drive for the local blood bank. (They challenged other storage businesses to match their donations.)

“We chose the Harry Chapin Food Bank for a holiday activity because of the need right now,” said Bolt. “It’s really bad for people. And I think if you have a full stomach, you have a full mind.”

The Santa who visited with the Santa Limo was particularly impressive to Bolt.

“We’re now thinking about doing a Christmas In July because this Santa was so great,” Bolt said. “He does charity work, including getting toy donations on his own to give to children when he sees them on his holiday appearences.”
