Earth and Spirit to host ‘Building Your Own Water Feature’

3 min read

Waterfalls, reflection ponds and fountains have become popular in backyards throughout the country, but many fear that installing and maintaining a water feature can be costly and time consuming. To dispel this notion, Earth and Spirit Garden Gallery will host a special demonstration this weekend presented by St. James City resident Claude Memoli.
Those attending will learn just how simple it is to build a “tranquility” fountain that will bring years of enjoyment and relaxation. The step-by-step presentation by Memoli will explore insights into the various types of water features as well as installation techniques.
The demonstration will take place at Earth and Spirit Garden Gallery on Saturday, Jan. 17, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Earth and Spirit is located at 5425 Maria Drive in St. James City, approximately one mile south of the island center.
Memoli, the president of Uni-Scape Waterfalls and Landscaping in St. James City, has more than 18 years of experience using rock work to install water features as well as outdoor kitchens, stone patios, koi ponds and pools. According to Memoli, those attending this free seminar will learn how to build a “pondless” waterfall.
“These waterfalls give the impression that the water coming off of the fountain goes right into the ground instead of being caught in a pond,” said Memoli.
According to Memoli, the cost of building the fountain yourself is $550 and kits will be available at Earth and Spirit during the seminar. However, those who prefer to have it professionally installed will spend $950 and Memoli highly recommends that those interested in this water feature come to the event to learn how to complete this project themselves.
Water feature kits for the do-it-yourself homeowners, as well as full waterfall packages, are are available at Earth and Spirit.
