By Staff | Feb 18, 2009

ANDREA GALABINSKI Susan Grant, visiting the area from Montreal, said Macy’s employee Ruthie Pitts was a delight. Pitts did Grant’s make-over at the Equity Expo.

Residents from six local communities got together for a meet-and-greet last week at the 2nd Annual Equity Expo in North Fort Myers.

The multi-community event was sponsored by Equity LifeStyle Properties Inc. Feb. 9-12, and featured sports and recreation, arts and crafts, educational seminars, live entertainment and more.

Participating communities included Pine Lakes Country Club, Lake Fairways Country Club, Buccaneer Estates, The Heritage, Pioneer Village and Windmill Village.

“This is an event we want to do each year to bring our communities together,” said regional manager for the company, Judy Lounberry. “Some are recreational vehicle parks, some are residential communities. What they have in common is many year-round and seasonal individuals who like meeting other Fort Myers residents. We plan on having this again next year.”

At The Heritage, last Tuesday was “Glamour Day” and many locals said they were looking forward to the event after attending last year. There were make-overs, manicures, pedicures and a live fashion show and accessory sale.

Visitors to the area also enjoyed the event. It is welcome when Florida is trying to keep up the seasonal tourist boom, said several local residents.

A neighboring visitor from Canada, Susan Grant of Montreal said the event showed the camaraderie that is the North Fort Myers community. She got a makeover at The Heritage from Macy’s employee Ruthie Pitts, from the store’s Este Lauder counter.

“Ruthie is a pro, and I’m totally enjoying this,” said Grant.

Pitts had participated in the event last year, and was all smiles this year.

“I’m really enjoying this. I did the event last year and looked forward to it this year,” she said.

“This is our second expo and it has been very successful,” said Tammy Collins-Spriggs, community manager for The Heritage. “We have all of these communities represented here, and at The Heritage, they came and got pampered and got to shop. We had ‘Boutique on Wheels’ doing the fashion show, a company from Fort Myers. Everyone is enjoying it.”

Highlights included a welcome luau at Pine Lakes Country Club and a golf tournament at Pine Lakes. A Health Fair was also held at Windmill Village There was also a Shuffleboard Tournament at Pioneer Village followed by lunch and an awards ceremony, and a talent show at The Heritage, where ELS residents compete for the title of “Best ELS Talent.”

Windmill Village had a breakfast social and craft show and there was a Red Hat Ladies Luncheon and jewelry making class at Buccaneer Estates.
