Chamber honors scholarship recipients, member ad special
Honoring scholarship recipients was a highlight of the June North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce Business Leaders Luncheon.
The event was held June 17 at Bianca’s Ristorante, 16251 N. Cleveland Ave.
“The scholarship selection process this year has been both interesting and challenging,” said board member Mary Havener, who led the meeting. “The committee received a number of outstanding nominations, and the process for selecting only one recipient for each award was truly difficult.”
Three awards were presented, one Future Business Leader Scholarship for $1000 and two Academic Achievement Scholarships for $500.
The Future Business Leader Scholarship recipient was Nicole Roberts.
“Nicole has a GPA of 4.22 with an SAT score of 1,580. She is pursuing a career in law and business and will be attending Edison State College in the fall. Her community and volunteer activities include Relay For Life, Toys For Tots, Taste of the Town and mentoring students at Tropic Isles and Hancock Creek elementary schools,” said Havener.
“It’s truly an honor and I’m very excited about this award,” said Roberts, who attended the ceremony with proud mom Debbie Roberts.
Tiffany Danielson and Vincent Michael Conrad received the two Academic Achievement Scholarships.
“Tiffany has a GPA of 4.22 and is involved in numerous school activities including chorus, National Honor Society, Interact Club and athletics. She is planning on attending a four-year university to major in business and minor in music. Her community and volunteer activities include Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Habitat For Humanity, student mentoring and she is a Sunday School teacher,” Havener said.
“Vincent has a GPA of 3.83 with an SAT score of 1,180,” Havener continued. “He is pursuing a degree in music education from the University of Central Florida. His minor would be music business. He has performed for the past four years with the Southwest Florida Youth Symphony Orchestra. His community and volunteer activities include Interact Club, Little League softball coach and he is a church service musician.”
Tiffany attended the event with parents Chrissy and Scott Danielson, and mom Mary Conrad came with her son.
“This honor means a lot and will help with expenses,” said Tiffany Danielson.
“It will help with my scholastic endeavors,” agreed Conrad.
Havener thanked Dr. Misty Green, Jarrod Cantrell and Wendy Murray of the awards committee, who devoted their time, expertise and energies to the selections.
“The scholarships came from the chamber foundation,” said Murray. “Our foundation is a 501c3. If you donate, it is 100 percent tax deductible and you can match what your employees can contribute.”
She said all of the chamber’s fund-raisers go to the chamber foundation, which, in turn, benefits the North Fort Myers community.
“We keep it in the community,” she said.
