Hope HealthCare Services Chief Executive Officer Samira K. Beckwith was recently selected to be part of the 28th Class of Leadership Florida, an organization that selects and enhances leaders in communities across the state.
Each year approximately 40 to 70 leaders are chosen to participate in a nine-month educational program that focuses on statewide issues and leadership skills.
Over the past 20 years, 900 Florida leaders — chief executive officers, hospital administrators, politicians, academics and more — have completed the program.
It was created in 1982 by the Florida Chamber of Commerce to build a statewide community of leaders sharing their skills and knowledge.
Beckwith said she was asked to apply earlier this year and was pleased to learn she was accepted.
“I’m very pleased because many of the past participants are the leading business and community leaders from across Florida,” she said.
Beckwith will participate in five educational sessions next year with other members of Leadership Florida, and she hopes to learn more about the state’s changing needs, population and service-oriented landscape.
“I want to better understand the future needs of Floridians so we can better care for people in our service area. This will give me a better idea of the landscape for the future,” said Beckwith.
She first joined Hope Hospice in 1991 with more than 30 years of health care experience.
Beckwith received her master’s degree from Ohio State University’s College of Social Work.
Hope HealthCare Services was first opened in 1984 and serves people in Lee, Hendry, Glades, Highlands, Hardee and Polk counties.
