ANDREA GALABINSKI LCEC CEO Dennie Hamilton accepts a Toastmasters International award from District 47 Gov. Kristin Kihlberg and International Director Pamela Christopher.

Lee County Electric Cooperative, with corporate offices in North Fort Myers, recently was recognized by Toastmasters International for corporate support of the Electric Toasters – the local branch of the organization that helps locals hone their speaking skills.

“There are only a few corporations in our area that support a Toastmasters club,” said Vice President of the local Toastmasters Club 5701, Melissa Miller. Their club meets at LCEC headquarters every second and fourth Wednesday at noon.

You don’t have to be an LCEC employees to attend, she said. Anyone interested in improving their speaking skills is welcome.

“Chico’s and LCEC participate locally,” she said. “LCEC provides the Electric Toasters with a location to have club meetings, and pays member dues as long as the employee is in good standing. Corporate support is an affordable way to improve employee morale, provide employee training and developmental opportunities and motivates employees to be successful.”

“The group stands for leadership and service,” said District 47 Governor Kristin Kihlberg, who helped present the award. She said she has seen people get physically ill from nervousness with public speaking, and this type of group exercise helps ward against that.

“It’s also reaching out and having effective communications with our children.”

“It’s electric here” said International Director Pamela Christopher, commenting on the name of the local club – Electric Toasters. “The spirit here is just wonderful.

“We’re honored to have gotten the award. We support the Toastmasters facilitation of improving communications and leadership skills for its members,” said LCEC CEO Dennie Hamilton. “It helps people both professional and personally and we’re glad to support those efforts.”

The recognition plaque will be displayed at the offices.

Club president Julie Vaughn commented on the various clubs in the area.

“Ours has a sense of humor.” She is the assistant to the CEO, and noted a wide range of employees there attend the club meetings.

Electric Toasters Club 5701 is part of Toastmasters International, a group that has five local branches throughout North Fort Myers, Cape Coral and Fort Myers. The goal is better communication.
