The Cape Coral Fire Department responded to an early Monday morning structure fire at Viking Millworks.
Viking Millworks, which designs custom cabinets from its offices at 1213 S.E. Ninth Terrace in the industrial park off of Viscaya Parkway, was destroyed by the fire.
City spokesperson Connie Barron said a majority of the Cape’s fire units responded to the emergency call received at 5:14 a.m.
“Most of that unit was heavily damaged,” she said. “Viking owns adjacent units for other uses, but not much damage to them.”
A team of workers spent Monday trying to shut off the building’s water.
Detective Adam Rivero, of the State Fire Marshal’s Office, estimated that the damage to the property is approximately $325,000.
Investigators were unable to enter the building Monday because it is structurally unsound, Rivero said.
“We are having a problem. The structure is unsafe,” he said. “Firefighters could not make entry.”
The investigation could not be completed until structural engineers arrived on scene, officials said.
The city is awaiting an official fire report.
According to Barron, most of the city’s firefighting units were on scene for the fire, including two ladder trucks. Other area fire departments were asked to be on call to help if another fire broke out in the Cape.
“We required mutual aid assistance from other areas due to a lack of availability of our units,” she said.
Rivero said emergency services returned to normal as soon as the fire was contained.
