Good Shepherd Lutheran School gets votes for International Door Theme contest

By Staff | Nov 17, 2009

Andrea Galabinski Students at Good Shepherd School decorated doors that reflect international themes. ”America” won the top vote by church members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

The voting is in! The North Fort Myers Neighbor, school and church officials all voted on which class decorated its door the best to depict a nation or international theme at the Good Shepherd Lutheran School.

For churchgoers, the nod for first place went to Sherry Brune’s 1st grade class (America).

Second place went to Kim Hoffmann’s 7th grade class (Kenya)

Third place went to Marg Marinez’ 4-year-old VPK class (Ireland).

The Neighbor’s rating were the same but in a different order – Kenya came in first, then America and Ireland.

The Kenya Door was the second place winner.

“This was an excellent learning experience,” said school mom and active volunteer Kellie McIntosh. “It was a fun way to earn and encourage our book fair.”

Prizes for the winning classes will include books for the classroom and a Popsicle party.

“If we sell 250 books the principal gets a pie in the face, 500 and she gets to kiss a pig,” McIntosh added.

She believes they’ve made the pig-kissing goal.

The principal is Donna Jekel, who happens to be McIntosh’s mother.

A door depicting Ireland got the nod for third place.

The pig has not been designated as yet.

“If you have a pig, please call us,” she said.

Other projects at the school include adopting 12 children from the Children’s Network to purchase their Christmas gifts.

The church and school are located at 4770 Orange Grove Blvd., in North Fort Myers, and the phone number for the school is 995-7711.
