Fund-raiser to benefit long-time Cape volunteer

By Staff | Nov 21, 2009

A fund-raiser will be held for a Cape Coral resident today from noon until 8 p.m. at the Fort Myers Skatium.
Walter Fluegel said Paul Carlson has been fighting cancer since 2004 and he has reached the point where he needs help to offset some of the substantial medical expenses he is incurring.
He said Carlson has always donated a lot of time to the city of Cape Coral, by sitting on the Cape Coral Planning & Zoning Commission, the Cape Coral Affordable Housing Committee and as a hockey coach for the youth.
“He has always done well with overcoming it and beating it,” Fluegel said, adding but now he has reached a point where he cannot work anymore.
The Southwest Florida Youth Travel Hockey Association is spearheading the fund-raising event for Carlson at the Skatium.
The afternoon of activities will feature a pasta dinner from noon until 8 p.m., along with a bake sale and raffles.
Toni Gayer, president of the association said they will also be raffling off a flat screen television, a half-day fishing charter for six people and various smaller prizes.
She said the Skatium also has junior games on Saturday. The $5 ticket sales spectators pay to attend the junior hockey games also will be donated to the Carlson family.
For more information call Frank Scarpaci, The Southwest Florida Youth Travel Hockey Association at (941) 400-9023.
