A 57-year-old Cape Coral man died early Monday when his motorcycle collided with a Lee County school bus.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, Robert H. Cook was riding his 1986 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the southbound inside lane of McGregor Boulevard in Fort Myers when he turned onto John Morris Road and collided with the bus.
The district school bus, driven by 68-year-old John C. Donohue, had been stopped at the red light of the northbound left turning lane on McGregor when the light turned green.
The school bus made its turn and Cook collided with the left side of the bus.
The Lee County Fire Department, Lee County EMS and Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the intersection where the accident occurred at 6:12 a.m. and pronounced Cook dead at the scene.
Donohue was wearing a seat belt and had no injures, according to the report. The school bus sustained $3,000 worth of damage.
Officers closed the southbound inside lane of McGregor Boulevard for approximately three hours.
Spokespersons for the Lee County School District said no students were on the bus at the time of the collision.
The school district was not releasing any further information on Monday afternoon.
