Principal to be jailed for MDA, announces Red Carpet Knight open house
NFM High Principal Kimberly Lunger will be “jailed” on Wednesday Dec. 9, to help raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Lunger will be at Victory Lane Cafe at 9:30 a.m. to accept donations for the cause.
The long-running campaign features local prominent citizens being “arrested” to raise funds, and having community supporters raise their bail money which is donated to the charity.
“Please help ‘bail me out.” she said. “By helping me ‘out’ you are helping children and adults with neuromuscular diseases.”
She was anonymously turned in as a good candidate for the cause. “Apparently someone in the community felt that I would be able raise money for MDA so my name was turned in to be locked up.”
So far she has raised about $250.
“I’m hoping members of the NFM Community would also help the cause as it is of course for curing our children.”
MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research.
The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education.
MDA combats neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive medical and community services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. With national headquarters in Tucson, MDA has more than 200 offices across the country, sponsors 220 hospital-affiliated clinics and supports nearly 400 research projects around the world.
If you miss her and would like to make a donation in her name, you can send a check to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 6225 Presidential Court Suite B, Fort Myers, Florida 33919. Put her name – Principal Kimberly Lunger – in the memo line.
Victory Lane Cafe is located at 4120 Hancock Bridge Pkwy. and the number for the restaurant is 995-0340.
Red Knight night coming up
For local eighth grade students and parents interested in North Fort Myers High School as their school of choice, there is a special event coming up.
“The Red Carpet Knight is the biggest thing we have coming up,” said Lunger. “It is a big open house where we show off everything we’ve got. That’s everything from the arts to music to the collegiate academy and the dual enrollment program with Edition Community College.”
The event will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 8.
You don’t need to register, just show up at 6:30 p.m. at the cafeteria.
