Recreation Highlights for Fort Myers

The city of Fort Myers has a number of recreational facilities – everything from parks and community centers to skate facilities and pools. Here are some highlights:

Fort Myers Skatium

The Fort Myers Skatium is an ice rink, offering an ice skating arena, an athletic gymnasium and a fitness center as well as ice and in-line hockey leagues, freestyle skating and the Learn to Skate Skating Academy.

In addition, the Fort Myers Skatium offers a variety of athletic programs and lessons that include basketball, indoor soccer and more, including an arcade room, snack bar, skate rentals and a hockey pro shop.

Fort Myers Skate Park

Next to the Skatium

The city of Fort Myers touts the Fort Myers Skate Park as “a premier outdoor attraction” offering skaters a variety of ramps and half pipe made up of wood and galvanized steel ramps surfaced with skate-lite. The facility is lit for nighttime use and offers a challenge for skate boarders, roller bladers and, on Monday bike nights, BMX bikers.

There is a pro shop, which offers equipment, along with drinks, snacks and other skating needs.

The Fort Myers Skate Park is located in downtown Fort Myers next to the Skatium at 2250 Broadway, and across the street from the Red Sox Stadium.

Centennial Park

Centennial Park is a tree-filled 10-acre community park on the scenic banks of the Caloosahatchee River. Amenities include a large handicap-accessible playground, fishing pier, boat docks and launching ramp, volleyball courts, two picnic pavilions, promenade path, plenty of benches to just enjoy the ambiance and various statuary for those who would like to take a stroll through local history. Centennial Park, located in historic downtown Fort Myers, 2000 West First Street, is also the site of many of Lee County’s major community events.

The covered pavilions at Centennial Park can be reserved for private events for up to three hours at no cost. City of Fort Myers Yacht Basin

Mile Marker 135, Okeechobee Waterway

Next to Centennial Park

Located at Mile Marker 135 on the Okeechobee Waterway, 15 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico, the Fort Myers Yacht Basin is a well-designed and protected marina offering dockage and fuel.

By land, the marina is located in historic downtown Fort Myers next to Centennial Park. By water, it’s on the south side of the Caloosahatchee River between the Edison Bridges and the Caloosahatchee Bridge in downtown Fort Myers.

Shady Oaks Park

& Community Center

Shady Oaks Park & Community Center, at 3280 Marion Street, offers a 200-guest ballroom, full catering kitchen and an adjacent park, with playground and athletic fields. Shady Oaks Community Center is also home to the Oaks Boys & Girls Club of Lee County.

Riverside Park

& Community Center

The Riverside Community Center, east of downtown at 3061 East Riverside Drive on the Caloosahatchee River, offers a 190-person waterfront ballroom with a full catering kitchen, a full stage with theatrical lighting, meeting room, woodshop and pottery room.

Adjacent to the community center is Riverside Park, featuring a playground, large covered picnic areas, nature trails, a small canoe/kayak pier, fishing pier, and a replica lighthouse. In addition, numerous native plants and various animal species can be viewed from the shoreline.

STARS Complex

The STARS Complex offers educational, athletic and self-development programs designed for at-risk youth.

The complex offers an after school program for children 6-14, summer camp, a junior Olympic pool, tennis courts, basketball complex and various classes and sports leagues as well as a Boys & Girls Club chapter.

Friday, noon- 7:30 p.m.

Saturdays 9 a.m.- 1 p.m.

Monday through Friday the STARS Complex is closed to the public for the After School Program from 2-5:30 p.m.

Ft. Myers Aquatics offers an array of multiple facilities and programs year round, including parent infant swim lessons, low impact arthritis classes and various invitation meets.

All pools are heated in the winter and chilled in the summer to keep a comfortable temperature of 83 degrees.

The Fort Myers Aquatic Center is located at the Sam Fleishman Regional Sports Complex, 1750 Matthew Drive in Fort Myers.

Hours of operation for The Aquatic Center and Stars Complex are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The hours at the Golfview pool are noon to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for children 3-17 and $1 for infants 2 and younger.

Fort Myers Racquet Club

The Fort Myers Racquet Club features eight lighted clay courts, two hard courts, private lessons offered by on-site USPTA professionals, tennis clinics, a Junior Academy, Quick Start Children’s Tennis and a pro shop and snack shop.

The facility is open Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Saturday 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. – noon.
