OFFICERS’ REPORTS
President Scott Brenner reported that he had invited representatives of NFMCA, Chamber of Commerce, NFMCPP and this organization to a Happy hour that he had sponsored to discuss ways of attracting new clean jobs and industry to our area, and that although many attended, little was accomplished due to other distractions. He also reported that the NAACP had recently conducted a jobs outreach meeting run by Darryl Clare, Chair of their Labor and Industry Committee, who was present at our meeting by invitation of President Brenner, and who graciously came forward and addressed our group on the same subject. He stated that people at that outreach meeting were depressed and angry, and that some were directed to health facilities. Gregg Makepeace said that many people were using computers at the libraries to help them find jobs. Scott Brenner and Jim Lattmann commented that churches play an important role in attempting to alleviate the pain of this problem, and that helping people get jobs was more important than attracting new industry, although both agreed that we and the community should try to do both. Gregg Makepeace noted that we should try to diversify our economy. Wayne Daltry observed that the community should try to connect those needing jobs with those needing employees.
JIM LATTMANN, V. PRES. reported that NFM Utilities and FGUA had finally reached agreement for a purchase price of eighty million dollars, with a closing scheduled in February. There will be a rate increase to the homes in Waterway Estates when they get connected to FGUA.
Under general announcements, there will be a Tourism Development meeting on 1/8/10 at 9 a.m. and Wayne Daltry stated that from January 7 to 10 there is a Water Management meeting to discuss the Caloosahatchee River. He announced that Lee County had become more aggressive and that as a result we were getting more water when we need it. Scott Brenner announced that DiLisi was expected to make a presentation to us tonight, but that he had called to say he couldn’t make the meeting, and will probably appear before us shortly.
Upon motion of Lattmann, seconded by Land and unanimously passed, the meeting was adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
.
Minutes respectfully submitted by: MIKE LAND, SECRETARY
NOTE: This meeting was immediately followed by a Presentation of the final of six sessions on “PLANNING BOOT CAMP” conducted by Wayne Daltry with assistance and drawings by Joe Beck, this session on the subject of Smart Streets. Both were thanked profusely by President Brenner for the many hours they had spent educating us on this series on the entire Planning Process.
