Gulf Elementary on lockdown
Gulf Elementary is under lockdown this afternoon after a student reported seeing a man with gun, officials reported.
At 1:27 p.m. Cape Coral police received a call about a student at Gulf Elementary who reportedly saw a man holding a gun, said police spokeswoman Connie Barron. The school is on lockdown and police are headed to the school, standard procedure following this type of report.
According to officials with the Lee County School District, the school is on lockdown for “precautionary reasons” because there is “police activity in the area.” It will remain under lockdown until authorities give the “all clear.”
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office may be assisting the Cape police, but nobody was on scene as of about 2 p.m., reported a spokesman for the LCSO.
Gulf Elementary is located at 3400 S.W. 17th Place.
