On Saturday, April 24, 2010, at approximately 1:51 A.M, deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for service at a private residence located on La Plata Road, Lehigh Acres. When deputies arrived on scene, they encountered a critically wounded male in the driveway of the home. While in the presence of deputies, this individual died as a result of his injuries. Upon securing the scene, deputies entered the home and encountered an armed male subject. The subject opened fire on deputies and was fatally wounded during the incident. No deputies were harmed.

Due to the nature of the situation, detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation. Circumstances surrounding the death of the individual outside the home are still being investigated. Names of the deceased will be made public once next of kin is notified. There is no further information at this time.
