Driver faces 21 Counts of DUI property damage
A Cape Coral man is facing a DUI charge and 21 counts of DUI property damage after reportedly running down numerous mailboxes on Southeast 11th Avenue and Southeast 21st Terrace Saturday evening.
According to a report from the Cape Coral Police Department, Daniel E. Jazwiecki, 49, of 2130 S.E. 11th Ave., has been charged with damaging at least seven mailboxes in the 2100 block of Southeast 11th Avenue and 12 mailboxes in 1100-1400 block of Southeast 21st Terrace.
At 5:50 p.m. Saturday, July 31, Cape Coral Police Officer Joseph Wayland reportedly observed a silver 2000 Chevrolet truck driven by Jazwiecki on Southeast 11th Avenue leave the roadway several times and strike a number of mailboxes.
Officer Wayland said Jaz-wiecki then turned onto Southeast 21st Terrace and continued driving off and on the roadway and striking mailboxes. The truck then struck the back of a Hyundai, and pulled into a residential driveway and ran into the home at 1432 S.E. 21st Terrace.
The CCPD report said Jaz-wiecki reportedly then put his truck into reverse, backed into a Toyota Cruiser and finally came to a stop after striking that vehicle and a portable toilet.
A resident of the neighborhood who observed the suspect’s driving pattern ran to the truck, turned off the vehicle and took the keys, the report states.
Officer Wayland arrested and charged Jazwiecki with driving under the influence as well as the numerous property damage charges.
Jazwiecki remained in custody in the Lee County jail Monday evening.
