Man charged with murder in NFM homicide

By Staff | Aug 7, 2010

A man just released from jail for driving without a license has been charged with murder in the death of a North Fort Myers man found dead in his home Friday.

Lawrence Charles Baldwin, 45, no local address, was charged Saturday with second degree murder in connection with the death of John Quimby, 83, of 457 Stipe St.

Baldwin had been seen in the area the night before Quimby was found dead from an apparent stab wound, officials said, adding Baldwin stole numerous items from the victim’s home.

Baldwin had been released from the Lee County Jail earlier this week for a second offense of driving on a suspended license. Prior driving offense records show he had lived in the area during the last year, including a residence a few doors down from the victim’s on Stipe Street.

He had been reported as a suspicious person Thursday evening in the area and was questioned by deputies to find out why, officials said. No crime was revealed at the time and he stated he was in the area to try and pick up clothes from his prior listed address.

Baldwin will be booked into the Lee County Jail.
