Cape man accused of stealing sales tax revenues receives probation
A Cape Coral man accused of stealing more than $31,000 in sales tax from the state was sentenced earlier this month to probation.
Kevin Paul Touhey, 44, of 1914 Cornwallis Parkway, pleaded guilty to one count of theft of state funds. He received four years state probation and had to pay $31,106.80 in restitution to the Florida Department of Revenue, according to State Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Samantha Syoen.
She said the department had received the payment as of Thursday.
Touhey also was sentenced to 50 hours of community service and had to give a DNA sample. He must cover $343 in court costs, $100 for the cost of prosecution and $2,836.76 for the Department of Revenue’s investigation.
Syoen said adjudication was withheld.
According to officials, Touhey is the former owner of Cape Coral Cars, a used car dealership once located at 1424 Viscaya Parkway.
During various periods beginning in 2006 and lasting through 2009, Touhey collected tax from customers, but he failed to send all of the sales tax to the state.
