Babysitter charged in infant’s death
A Lehigh Acres woman has been charged with murder in the death of a baby who suffered “massive head injuries” Wednesday, consistent with being shaken.
Maria Guadalupe Corsa-Hernandez, 35, of 238 Milwaukee Boulevard, was charged with felony murder, a capital offense, and one count of aggravated child abuse in the death of David Landron, seven months.
Corsa-Hernandez was caring for David when he reportedly began to choke on food. Emergency workers responding to Corsa-Hernandez’s home administered life saving measures and David was flown to Healthpark Medical Center.
He died a short time later, officials said.
Detectives called to the hospital late Wednesday afternoon were told the infant had actually suffered massive head trauma and injuries consistent with being shaken, officials said, adding Corsa-Hernandez was the only person with David when the injuries occurred.
Corsa-Hernandez was booked into the Lee County Jail late Thursday. According to jail records, bond has been denied.
