Code compliance officers to start ‘Paint Your Heart Out’ Program

By Staff | Dec 3, 2010

Cape Coral Code Compliance officers will kick off a new initiative today, Dec. 4, with their “Paint Your Heart Out” Program. Officers and volunteers will paint the home of a disabled, single mother who is struggling in this tough economy.
Work will begin at 8 a.m. at her home located at 1716 S.E. 12th St. The project is being completed with the cooperation of Home Depot, Keep Lee County Beautiful and Take Pride in the Cape.
The code officers came in contact with the mother a few weeks ago when an officer responded to a complaint about code violations. The main violation at the residence was the deteriorating exterior paint. The officer realized as he explained the violations that the woman could not afford to bring her property into compliance. Rather than cite her, the department decided to use her home as the first location for the “Paint Your Heart Out” Program.
The Code Compliance Division will be identifying deserving residents whose homes are in need of a coat of paint to bring it up to city code. Officers hope to coordinate several painting projects each year through the “Paint Your Heart Out” Program.
