Italian American Club annual festival today
The Italian American Club will hold its annual big festival today with all the food, fun and entertainment, both inside the club and on an outside stage in Big John’s Plaza.
Cape Coral Mayor John Sullivan even issued a proclamation earlier this week naming April 28 Italian American Day in Cape Coral.
The action will take place on the corner of Vincennes and Southeast 47th Terrace from 3 to 10 p.m.
“It’s going to be in the nature of a block party,” said festival chairman Leigh Fisher. “There’s all the entertainment, beer, food, and more. Budweiser is one of the sponsors.
“Outside we’ll operate until 10 p.m., with DJ Ralphie “D” as the emcee, and the outside festivities include free admission.”
Look also for Family Affair, Nabbie’s Performing Arts Studio and the Hot Flashz Dancers, along with vendors.
“At the same time we are holding the block party there will be two seatings for shows inside the clubhouse, one at 5:30 and one at 9 p.m.,” Fisher said.
For $40, there will be a buffet and a drink along with the shows; and admission to the show only is $25. There will be some tickets available at the door.
“Our clubhouse has the most beautiful ballroom in Cape Coral, and it holds about 400 people.”
The talent is from real Italian shows, from a group that produces acts for the Bellagio in Las Vegas and the Portofino Bay Hotel in Orlando, he added.
That includes Dee and the Florida Jersey Boys, the 3 Tenors Kick It Up and Karlo with music and dancing.
“Dee will be performing before thousands the night before in Chicago at a Make A Wish event. She’s flying down here the next morning. The act she will participate in is with the Florida Jersey Boys, one of the most popular singing groups in Florida. a regional show. She’s known as ‘Florida’s favorite pop diva.'”
The 3 Tenors also is a group that tours Florida and appears at the Portofino, he said.
There will also be music for dancing provided by local entertainment Karlo.
The club has 210 members, and this year will be celebrating its 45th anniversary.
“There will be a celebration of that sometime in the fall,” Fisher said.
Tickets for the show are requested to be bought or reserved in advance with a limited number at the door. For information, call the Italian American Club at 542-6515.
