* Greater Fort Myers Dog Club

The Greater Fort Myers Dog Club will hold its Spring Show May 26-27 at the Lee Civic Center.

The show will be held at the Lee Civic Center, 11831 Bayshore Road, North Fort Myers, at the junction of State Road 31 and 78, on Saturday May 26, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday May 27, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with judging beginning at 8:30 a.m. each day.

There will be a $10 per car per day entry fee, or $17 for both days. Due to AKC regulations, dogs not entered in the show will not be allowed into the building. Additionally no children’s strollers are permitted in the buildings.

* 8th Annual Ryan McCleskey Redfish Challenge Fishing Tournament

Lee Memorial Health System Foundation announces that angler spots are still available for the 8th Annual Ryan McCleskey Memorial Redfish Challenge set for Saturday, May 19, at Cape Harbour Marina, 5828 Cape Harbour Drive in Cape Coral. The day on the water runs from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes food, chance drawings and cash prizes: $1500 First Place, $750 Second Place and $500 Third Place.

Mandatory Captains’ Meeting is May 18, at 5:30 p.m. at the The Twisted Conch, 837 S.E. 47th Terrace Cape Coral. Entry fee is $250 for up to four anglers.

Net proceeds from the event benefit Barbara’s Friends-The Children’s Hospital Cancer Fund. The tournament honors Ryan McCleskey who ended his fight against cancer on Feb. 3, 2006. Family, friends, and acquaintances of Ryan wish to continue his battle with loving memory.

The Lee County Genealogical Society has announced the following events:

Saturday, May 12, 10 a.m. to noon. Quarterly meeting of the Lee County Genealogical Society followed by a presentation by Society President Carol Rooksby Weidlich. “Exploring FamilySearch.org”

The meeting will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, 4141 De Leon Street, Fort Myers.

Thursday May 17, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, presented by Carol Rooksby Weidlich “Exploring the 1940 U.S. Federal Census”

* Cape Coral Yacht Club Sprint Triathlon

The Cape Coral Yacht Club Sprint Triathlon, presented by the Cape Coral Parks & Recreation Department, will be held Satur-day, May 12, from 7 a.m. to noon. The event is open to everyone 9 years of age and older. The cost is $55 per person. Check-in will be at 6:15 a.m. and the race will begin at 7. It will cover a quarter-mile swim in the river; biking (11.5 miles) and 5K run to finish the event. The Cape Coral Yacht Club Pavilion and Beach are located on Driftwood Park-way. * Mets vs. Marlins trip

The Tony Rotino Center Center will host a trip to Miami Sunday, May 13, for a Miami Marlins/New York Mets Major League baseball tame in Marlins Park. Travel via motor coach to the game, with snacks and refreshments along the way. Tickets are only $64 per person and include your game ticket, round-trip transportation, snacks and refreshments during the trip plus all tolls and parking fees. * Literacy Council seeks volunteer tutors

The Literacy Council is seeking volunteer tutors to help Lee County residents who want to learn English or improve reading skills.

No foreign language or teaching experience is necessary, only the desire to help and the ability to commit an hour, twice a week. To you it’s only a couple hours; to students it’s the chance to change their lives.

* Restful Yoga

The North Fort Myers Community Center will YOGA classes on Wednesday evenings from 6:15 p.m .-7:15 p.m.

Yoga classes are $30 per month and space is limited. Terri Fields, yoga instructor, has been practicing yoga for 15 years. Yoga also improves circulation, increases energy, strengthens and tones the entire body. Yoga is great physical and mental exercise for all ages. Arts & Crafters can sign up now for the 14th Annual Heritage Arts & Craft Fair to be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 8 a.m. -2 p.m. All tables are still only $15, with electricity, if needed. * Treasure! Exhibit discounts

Visiting the Imaginarium Science Center has just become easier on the wallet thanks to a new rack card providing a discount coupon during its annual traveling exhibition period. The Treasure! special exhibition runs through May 20, and the rack card highlights this exhibit offering as well as the many interactive exhibits and educational programming opportunities available at the Imaginarium.
