Hurricane Seminar set for May 23 at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church
With the beginning of the hurricane season only a few weeks away, a local church will host a very important seminar to educate community residents on what to do, where to go (and how) in the case of severe weather.
Good Shepherd United Methodist Church will host a Hurricane/Emergency Preparedness Seminar on Wednesday, May 23, at 2 p.m. at the church, 2951 Trail Dairy Circle (across from Del Tura Country Club)
in North Fort Myers.
This is the fourth seminar that has been held for anyone in the community, whether heading north or staying here, on how to safeguard their homes, evacuate if needed, and other important information.
Gerald Campbell, chief of Planning from the Lee County Emergency Management Office will speak about these subjects and giving tips on how to prepare your home in case of a hurricane or severe weather, predictions of the upcoming season and best evacuation plans. Lee County Hazard Guides and other information will be available for the attendees to take home.
Bill Read, director of the National Hurricane Center, recently visited Lee County to urge residents to be prepared, warning that our area has not been affected by a devastating storm for a long time. Brian LaMarre, head of the National Weather Service office in Rusken, Florida, added that “public complacency and apathy are the biggest concerns.”

Gary Olson, chairman of the Disaster Team at Good Shepherd, said, “Everyone needs to be alert to weather conditions and know what actions to take should a hurricane, tornado or a severe storm impact our area.”
