NFM Civic Association: Civic gearing up for Community Night at the Miracle ’19
Well, the election is over. Seems like everyone got a little something but we’ll let the political pundits sort that out. It’s be another year before the politicians come out again for 2020. We can all take a breath and be content with non-political commercials at least for a while.
Your North Fort Myers Civic Association moves along with events. Its President, Doug Dailey, 1st Vice President Danny Ballard, and Board Member Debbie Ballard met with Michael Burdette of the Fort Myers Miracle regarding the Wiffle Ball Tournament (February) and to discuss the 2019 NFM Civic Association Community Night at the Miracle. The Civic Association is planning the 2019 Community Night to be on a Saturday in April, either the 20th or 27th. We all know the earlier in April, the better the weather – and turnout.
Based on its success this year, we will have different ticket sales options available, and will not be in need of ticket vouchers. Sales will be on-line thru the Miracle web-site, and actual tickets will be sold directly by NFM Association officers. The Miracle will also post the NFM Community night on their website as an actual event. Additionally, they’ll promote NFM Community night via their social media. The Miracle will be at the Wiffle Ball Bash with Community Night tickets available.
With that said, on to Wiffle Ball. This event is fundraising for the Civic Association. As of today we’ve been able to raise nearly $3,000 in sponsorship money.
All American Printing, Ellsworth Heating and Cooling are two of the cash sponsors. Others will be announced in my next column. Carousel Carpets is donating hitting and pitchers mats for the event.
Wendy’s Restaurants will be setting up a vendor area at the event to offer some sweet treats and goodies as well and has paid for a vendor spot.
The Fort Myers Miracle will also be on hand with their Mascot Sway and will have a vendor tent. The Miracle will be donating several gifts and memorabilia for a raffle. The generosity is appreciated.
Finally, Hooters restaurants is participating and will be making a sponsorship donation for the event as well as fielding a team. Details of their sponsorship will be in my next column.
Change in color (along with direction). The Association is replacing its green shirts (not that they can’t still be worn) with red Civic Shirts. Red and black are North Fort Myers High’s colors. We thought a tie in with such an important aspect of the community made sense. You’ll have seen them at our meeting. If you didn’t make that meeting, well come by in January. No December meeting as we will instead work on the Christmas event.
The North Fort Myers Civic Association was represented by Danny and Debbie Ballard at the Horizon Village Home Show last Wednesday, Oct 31. Membership applications were provided and more importantly, Debbie and Danny promoted the Association. We hope to bring all the small communities together into a larger North Fort Myers community. This continues the effort to establish relations with the mobile home parks and housing communities of North Fort Myers. Our presence was very much appreciated by their residents.
We’re barely a month out from the Coalition Community Christmas Event. It’s Dec.15. Please mark your calendars for what should be a fun filled day. It’ll be 10-6, ending with the new Christmas tree lighting. The entertainment for the day is nearly filled. The new tree (small, but will grow each year along with North Fort Myers) is in place and will be ready for the event.
If anyone knows of anybody who would like to have a free vendor tent from which to sell or display Christmas type articles (including Christmas gifts) please let Doug Dailey (or a Board member) know, so we can save them a spot. NBC2 meteorologist Robb Dunns will be our emcee for the event. Thank you Robb!
There were almost 30 at the Christmas Ornament event Oct. 28. The kids on hand made some pretty nifty ornaments for the town tree. If you missed it, there will also be an ornament making the day of the Christmas event, Dec.15 so your children get another chance!
Next meeting is Jan. 8, 2019! Same place – North Fort Myers Recreation Center at 2000 N Recreation Way; Same time – 6 p.m. Hope to see you all there.
