Green Technologies a family affair
If you went to the Fort Myers Home and Remodeling Show recently, you would have seen Reyanna Taylor, who works in sales for Green Technologies of SWFL, promoting her family’s business.
For the Taylors, family comes first, which is why nearly everyone works for the North Fort Myers-based company in some capacity.
Green Technologies of SWFL is a tree and land-clearing company that does tree trimming, tree removal, stump grinding, land clearing, forestry mulching, pond digging and more.
“We handle things like when your oak tree is covering your house or your roof had to be redone because a tree fell on it or your growing roots so bad it’s going into your septic,” Reyanna said. “We get rid of the problem.”
The company was started by Chris Taylor in 2001. He was always clearing trees from their property and making his yard look better and found out he was good at it.
“He said let’s not work for someone else. Let’s do something I want to do and enjoy doing and start a business,” Reyanna said. “He bought a receipt book from the store, got a business license, studied, took classes and here we are.”
“I borrowed a ladder and a trailer from a friend of mine and I had to wait for my wife to get home at 2 p.m. to use her vehicle and go to work,” Chris Taylor said. “We worked our way up.”
Green Technologies has actually done quite well during the pandemic, since their work is outside and people still need work done on their property, whether commercial or residential. When meeting people, they follow CDC guidelines.
The company does a lot of home shows, maybe a dozen per year, to market their business. Reyanna said that the shows bring a lot of estimate requests, if not a whole lot of sales.
“We do work for real estate agents. If they’re selling a house and there’s a stump that’s ugly, we have intel on those people,” Reyanna said.
Green Technologies also has a 24-hour emergency service every day of the year in the event a tree falls on someone’s house in the middle of the night.
Reyanna said she loves working for her father and having job security at age 22 and perhaps taking over the company someday.
“It’s good to have something your parents started and you have the passion to do as well,” Reyanna said.
Chris said everyone in the family has a role in the business.
“I’m not going to live forever. One day Reyanna will take the reins. We want to be in business forever so we like mingling with people,” Chris said. “Our customers are like family and it gets bigger every day.”
Ultimately, it comes down to customer service. Chris Taylor said they don’t take down payments and their customers come away satisfied.
“We just like to give people what they’re paying for. We do a good job for them, we’re fast and the crews are amazing,” Chris said.
