Sports card show coming to Pondella Bingo
Whether you collected baseball cards or games cards, you will have plenty to peruse this Sunday as Breakroom Sports Cards presents the Southwest Florida Sports Card Show at the Pondella Bingo Hall.
There will be plenty of vendors, a food truck or two, and of course, sports cards and even Pokemon for the whole family to enjoy at the show set to run from from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 23.
Promoter Steve Palmer said he had a card shop on Southeast 47th Terrace in Cape Coral, but closed it before COVID to start doing local shows once the pandemic was over.
“We put together a bunch of local vendors. It’s been a great show over the last few months,” Palmer said. “This is our fourth show and it’s been amazing. We’ve had as many as 400 people showing up at our shows. We’ve set everyone up for success as far as making sure every table has masks and for people coming in.”
Masks are greatly encouraged, but not required, and there will be sanitizers at every table.
There will be the typical buying, selling and trading for sports cards, with about 80 percent of them autographed cards that could bring in a pretty penny. The market for the newer cards is booming more than ever, even in the ’80s and early ’90s, Palmer said.
“Prices for cards are through the roof. We will have some memorabilia, but more or less, we’ll be focused on sports cards,” Palmer said. “Companies that give you the boxes of cards insert autographs inside the boxes. You never know who you’re going to get. They spend $100 for a couple boxes and end up with a $500 autograph.
Collectors will often have a collection they want to downsize and upgrade and will sell 50 cards to get one expensive card. It’s a hobby that vendors have turned into a business.
Admission is $2 with children under 13 free. For more information, call Palmer at 440-5204.
The Pondella Bingo Hall is at 959 Pondella Road in North Fort Myers.
