Some things to remember as summer begins

By Staff | Jun 7, 2021

To the editor:

Roses are red; there is love for the manatees and the turtles swimmin’ in the seas; alligators too are frisky with mating season. Please enjoy the waterways safely, if you are boating, slow down so you can avoid injury.

If you are a year-round resident you want to stop fertilizing as a courtesy to your neighbors in the wild who rely on water. The fertilizer run-off in the rainy season puts them at risk. So please don’t do it this summer. We give you permission to chill, and promise not to judge your lawn harshly.

The lack of action from Gov. DeSantis and the GOP legislators hooked on the sugar industry’s campaign donation stranglehold will make for a bad summer of blue green algae and red tide. The residents’ refrain from making matters worse with run off was never more needed.

The CDC says the fully vaccinated no longer need to wear a mask outside (hospitals and close quarters with strangers, err on the side of caution). But the good news is that all those extra masks you have in the drawer can be used now to help prevent respiratory illness from the polluted waters’ air pollution.

Enjoy your summer.
